What can science do for art?

Science and art are both ways we explore and describe our surroundings and experiences. Science can provide an endless source of universal truths about the human experience for artists to draw inspiration from.

In 2011, graphic designer Demian Conrad was looking for a unique way to visualize sound for a brand identity for the Swiss orchestra, Camerata. He drew inspiration from experiments done 230 years earlier by German physicist Ernst Chladni in which he created resonance patterns by drawing a bow along the edge of a sand-covered metal sheet, causing the grains to align into different forms at difference frequencies.
